Five tips for you to try out in Eorzea.
Want to reach the very highest levels of power and get the most out of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn? Then follow these five top tips:
Reduce your travel costs
You can speed up your adventure by teleporting between locations using the Aetheryte crystals dotted around Eorzea, with one drawback - teleporting long distances costs Gil.
A great way to save on travel expenses is to "favourite" the Aetheryte crystals in each of Eorzea's three main cities, Ur'dah, Gridania and Limsa Lominsa. Simply select a crystal and choose to add it to your favourite locations; this will ensure you get a handy discount whenever you use that crystal - saving you Gil that can be put to good use later in the game, when currency becomes harder to earn.
Although hoofing it across Eorzea on foot allows you to take in the spectacular sights (and bump into massive monsters), the most formidable fighters know that time is precious.
Value real craftsmanship
Once you have gained access to the Disciple of the Hand character classes (after completing the level 10 quest for your starting class), your character will be able to start crafting objects, from cloth and armour to weapons, food and jewellery.
Every time you create an object for the first time, you'll gain a healthy amount of XP - as well as unlock the ability to construct that object in future using "quick synthesis". Though this can be helpful when you want to save time, remember: using "quick synthesis" to replicate objects doesn't earn you as much XP, and synthesized objects tend to be of lower quality and fail more quickly than slow-crafted ones.
If you can, craft objects using the full crafting process. This way, you'll build your XP more rapidly and be able to churn out better quality items much more quickly as time goes by.
Believe in FATEs
Participating in Fully Active Time Events (or FATEs) is one of the best ways to gain XP (as well as Grand Company Seals), but did you know you don't have to hang around till the end of a FATE to collect your reward? Just play your part in the battle and, when you've done enough to earn gold, leave the FATE and head for the next one.
If the FATE requires you to turn in booty in return for gold, six items are generally enough.
Some of the best places to look for FATEs according to your level:
Level 1-13: Near Starting Town (Ur'dah, Gridania or Limsa Lominsa)
Level 14-20: Aleport (La Noscea)
Level 21-30: Quarrymill (South Shroud)
Level 31-40: Camp Dragonhead (Coerthas)
Level 41-50: Ceruleum Processing Plant (North Thanalan)
Bag yourself a trusty steed
Every true fan of the series knows that the FINAL FANTASY experience isn't complete without a dedicated Chocobo mount to carry you about at high speed.
To purchase your own permanent Chocobo in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, you'll need to reach level 20 and join a Grand Company. You'll then start to earn Grand Company Seals for participating successfully in FATEs, Guildleves and by completing quests from your Grand Company Hunting Log.
Collect 2,000 seals and you'll have the option to purchase a Chocobo of your very own.
Train against fellow adventurers
Upon reaching level 30, members of a Grand Company can unlock the Wolves' Den, a player-versus-player training zone containing specialist shops and a combat arena. To gain access to the Wolves' Den, speak to the character in charge of your Grand Company to obtain the "Pup No More" quest, then locate the Wolves' Den pier on the map and prepare to set sail.
